About the event

With a showcase of surrealist animation from different decades and continents, this screening is a unique opportunity for film lovers to see short film gems in SALTs saunas. “Silly Symphony” is an influential short film animation series from the early days of American animation. Showcasing the style of the late 1920s accompanied with music (the self-titled “symphonies”), both “Hells Bells” (1929, 6 min) and “Skeleton Dance” (1929, 5 min) are perfect for spooky season. “Glass Harmonica” (1968, 21min) is mostly known from a steamed hams parody and being banned in the Soviet Union – ironic, considering the films theme of government censorship. While on the surface seeming to be a film about capitalist greed, it has been widely viewed as a thinly veiled critique of Soviet Union authoritarianism using fable-like storytelling and LSD-like surrealist animation to criticize the society it was created within. With these and many more mixed interpretations it is a fascinating piece of animation that is both loved and hated for well-understood reasons, and a film to watch with an engaged and critical eye. Standard kr 205,- Student kr 160,- The screening is included with the sauna ticket on October 21 at 7:00 p.m
