About the event

On the 6th of May, Tejaswinee Kelkar and Bernt Isak debuts their performance Three is a Crowd? at Kafé Hærverk. The performance brings together two human musicians – Tejaswinee Kelkar and Bernt Isak Wærstad – with a set of non-human musical collaborators. Across a series of shifting constellations, they enter into musical conversations that unfold in real-time. Roles shift, intentions blur and the music emerges through a constant negotiation of aesthetics and control. "Three is a crowd?” reframes the performance situation as a shared musical experience where perceptions of meaning and intention are continuously challenged for both performers and audience. TEJASWINEE KELKAR: Tejaswinee Kelkar is a vocalist, technologist, researcher, multiinstrumentalist, and associate professor at the University of Oslo. She combines a doctorate in music technology with over 30 years of studies of North Indian classical Hindustani music. She utilises extended vocal techniques and electronics to explore and expand existing aesthetic concepts within Hindustani music. With a fantastic ability to tell stories, a shining voice and heavy doses of humour, she invites the listeners to discover how music moves us more than we know. BERNT ISAK: Bernt Isak Wærstad is an interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of music, technology and performance arts based in Oslo and Nairobi. His practice spans from experimental pop music to contemporary dance and instrument design, united by a restless search for new artistic expressions. Through critical reflecting on the conditions of creation, his work questions what it means to create, perform and listen. His active ongoing collaborations includes the experimental pop duo Unganisha (NO/KE), sound-art-technology think tank Vingelklang (NO) and the interdisciplinary artist collective Mizizi (NO/KE/AU/DE).
